June is the start of summer – the beginning of vacations and relaxation. Things are just beginning to heat up, and your days may become filled with pool days, summer camps, and lots of sunshine! There are so many books that are perfect for this time of year, but what are my top recommendations for June reads?
Redeeming Love
Francine Rivers
This fictionalized retelling of the biblical story of Hosea and Gomer is a unique read any time of the year, but I think it could a potentially great option as a June read. It revolves around a man who pursues a woman stuck in prostitution. He loves her despite her past and consistently pursues her in marriage even when she is unfaithful. The time period is interesting, the message is beautiful, and the romance is so unique and sweet. A great read for the pool or beach this June!
The Kite Runner
Khaled Hosseini
This has to be one of my favorite books of all time! While a serious read, and not one to take as a light beach read, it is a book with lots of warmth and sunshine. Taking place in Afghanistan during Russian occupation, we follow the life of a young boy coming of age in a harsh environment. This book will bring you to tears, but it will also transport you to this previous world and educate you on things you’ve never even thought about before.
Rules of Summer
Joanna Philbin
Contrary to the previous two recommendations, this book is a true, light summer read! It’s a young adult chick-lit kind of novel. It’s a fun story of a teenage girl working for a family in the Hamptons over a summer. There is lots of drama with a sprinkling of light romance. It’s been a while since I’ve read this one, but it has always stuck with me, and I would love to revisit it this summer!
The Voyage of the Dawn Treader
C.S. Lewis
This was one of my most recent reads, and I actually listened to it on CD. Out of all the Chronicles of Narnia books, this has been my favorite so far! It has a pretty classic adventure tale format, but it is so fun! Lots of great character development and exciting journeys at sea! This would be a super fun read at the beach, and it’s a great option for the whole family!
